Direct Edit (hands-on tools)

Direct Edit is the hands-on mode in MotherFluxer. You grab the tools and make the change yourself — no AI, no prompt, no waiting. Adjust a color, drop in a filter, crop the frame, doodle on top, rearrange tracks. What you do is exactly what you get.

Open Direct Edit

Direct Edit is the paintbrush mode in the editor.

  • Open any artifact to enter its editor.
  • Select the paintbrush to switch into Direct Edit.
  • The editor topbar fills with hands-on tools for that artifact.
  • Make your change directly on the canvas or in the tool panel — it applies instantly, with no generation step.

Use Direct Edit whenever you know the exact tweak you want and would rather do it by hand than describe it.

The tools depend on the artifact type

Direct Edit shows tools built for whatever you're editing, so the toolset changes from one artifact type to the next. A few examples of what you'll find:

  • Image — color, filters, crop, doodle, and more on-canvas adjustments.
  • Audio — arrange and shape tracks, trim clips, and tune your mix.
  • Video — work across the timeline and per-clip controls.
  • Document, 3D, App, and others — each opens its own purpose-built set of hands-on controls.

For the full toolset and step-by-step instructions for a specific type, see that artifact's own page.

Undo and Redo

Edit freely — nothing is permanent until you decide it is.

  • Use Undo in the editor topbar to step back a change.
  • Use Redo to reapply a change you undid.
  • Experiment as much as you like; you can always walk a change back.

When you're happy with the result, save it as a new Snapshot to lock it in.

Direct Edit vs. Smart Edit

Both modes live in the same editor. The difference is who does the work.

  • Direct Edit — you make the change yourself with hands-on tools. Precise, instant, and free of any generation step. Best when you know exactly what you want.
  • Smart Edit — you describe the change in words and MotherFluxer generates it for you. Best for bigger or open-ended changes that are easier to ask for than to do by hand.

Switch between them anytime in the editor and use whichever fits the change in front of you.
